About The Position

The Assistant General Counsel will assist the Legal Division in redefining the way Oklahomans access and engage with government services. The Assistant General Counsel reports to the General Counsel (GC) and provides legal advice to the agency and represents Service Oklahoma in both administrative and judicial proceedings. The Assistant General Counsel will support the General Counsel in providing strategic legal guidance and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Applicants must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently. The lawyer will support SOK leadership, as needed.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited law school
  • Licensed to practice law in the State of Oklahoma
  • Minimum two (2) years legal experience as a licensed attorney
  • Ability to display good judgment
  • Detail-oriented
  • Possess strong oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrate solid, efficient research and writing skills
  • Self-starter and independent, but also able to collaborate and work well with others

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in administrative law, contracts, litigation, and/or other areas of law involved in the operations of a state government agency
  • Governmental and administrative law practice experience is strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Serves as first- and second-chair in administrative hearings
  • Analyzes, reviews, and determines impact of proposed legislation
  • Analyzes, researches, and reviews subpoenas and other requests under the Open Records Act and other privacy laws
  • Attends meetings as a representative of the legal division as assigned by the General Counsel
  • Serves as second- and first-chair in state and federal court proceedings involving the agency, including drafting of pleadings and discovery, motions hearings, depositions, and trial
  • Advises on questions of law or administrative policy involved in the operation of the agency and its contacts with industry, private or professional associations, state federal, or local government, and the public
  • Provides legal advice and counsel regarding all aspects of legal issues facing the agency
  • Prepares the preparation of legal opinions, briefs, pleadings, motions, petitions, and other legal documents
  • Conducts legal research and ensures compliance with federal and state laws
  • Other duties as assigned
