DOT’s staff manages 6,300 miles of streets and highways, over 12,000 miles of sidewalk, nearly 800 bridges and tunnels, including the iconic East River bridges, and the Staten Island Ferry. DOT staff also design bicycle facilities, bus lanes, and pedestrian plazas. DOT is seeking an Agency Attorney Interne to assist with a mix of assignments involving major DOT initiatives and programs. Under general supervision, with latitude for independent judgment, the successful candidate will: - Draft and assist in negotiating concession agreements that authorize revenue-generating activity on city-owned property, especially relating to pedestrian plazas and open streets. - Review and assist in drafting sub concession agreements that facilitate activities such as a markets, outdoor dining, and the operation of food, beverage, and/or merchandise kiosks on pedestrian plazas and open streets. - Draft maintenance agreements, as needed, related to the maintenance of a variety of streetscape amenities, such as planters, lighting, and seating. - Assist with enforcement matters related to the Dining Out NYC Program. - Assist with regulatory work related to micro mobility and sustainable delivery. - Conduct legal research; prepare legal memoranda; and coordinate with various external agencies. - Other responsibilities may include but are not limited to: draft and review legislation and rules; conduct policy reviews; and assist in other legal assignments arising out of Agency operations. The successful candidate will have an ability to handle a high volume of matters and function under tight time constraints. Strong communication skills, both oral and written are required, as well as the ability prioritize projects.
