About The Position

Temple Health is seeking an Assistant General Counsel to serve in Temple Health’s legal department. This role will report to Temple Health’s Associate General Counsel - Chief Transactions Counsel and will be responsible for negotiating a wide range of agreements across all of Temple Health and providing advice and guidance to Temple Health leadership on legal and regulatory issues. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney with 4+ years of experience in a law firm or in-house setting to develop and hone healthcare law expertise. This Assistant General Counsel will be a generalist in a rigorous and collegial legal department serving an academic medical center with challenging and impactful legal issues. A background in healthcare, regulatory, transactional and/or litigation would be a strong foundation for this role. Most important for success in this role is intellectual curiosity and a desire to advance the legal interests of a leading academic medical center and its mission of providing the highest quality medical care in the Philadelphia community and supporting world-class medical research.

Requirements

  • J.D. from an accredited law school with excellent academic credentials.
  • 4+ years of relevant experience in a top law firm, in-house legal department, or academic medical center.
  • Demonstrated experience in healthcare, regulatory, transactional, and/or litigation.

Nice To Haves

  • Legal experience advising clients in a healthcare or life sciences setting.

Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, and negotiate agreements related to equipment and supply purchases, clinical and non-clinical professional services, managed care, property leases and licenses, acquisitions and joint ventures, educational affiliations, research, and information technology.
  • Interpret contracts and advise Temple Health leaders on contractual questions and commercial disputes.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, including HIPAA, anti-kickback, Stark, and fraud & abuse.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders across the Health System including operational leadership, clinical leadership, compliance, IT, contract administrators, and colleagues in the Legal Department.
  • Participate as a legal advisor on multi-disciplinary strategic initiatives.
