Overall Purpose We are seeking an experienced Assistant General Counsel – Regulatory Affairs to lead the company’s regulatory affairs strategy and ensure awareness of evolving state and federal regulatory requirements applicable to Early Warning’s products and services. This role works cross-functionally across the Public Affairs and Legal functions in the development and execution of the company’s federal and state regulatory affairs strategy. The position also works cross-functionally with Compliance, Product, Strategy, and support functions to ensure timely awareness, understanding and operationalization of new and changes to existing regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school; active bar membership in good standing.
  • 10+ years of experience in financial services regulatory law (law firm, in-house, or regulatory agency).
  • Strong understanding of and proven experience working with U.S. financial services regulatory agencies including prudential regulators (OCC, FDIC, Federal Reserve), consumer protection agencies (CFPB, FTC) and state financial services regulatory agencies.
  • Deep understanding of core U.S. financial services legal and regulatory frameworks including UDAAP, GLBA, FCRA, EFTA/Reg E, TILA/Reg Z, UDAAP FTC Act requirements, OFAC sanctions regimes, FinCEN regulations, BSA/AML, GENIUS Act and state equivalents thereof.
  • Experience drafting regulatory comment letters and engaging in rulemaking processes.
  • Ability to translate complex regulatory frameworks into practical business guidance.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with executive presence.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, highly regulated environment.
  • Background and drug screen.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience at a federal financial services regulatory agency (e.g. OCC, CFPB, FTC, Treasury, OFAC, or FinCEN).
  • Prior experience as Regulatory Affairs or Policy legal counsel for a regulated financial institution.
  • Experience supporting bank partnership or fintech operating models.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor, analyze and report on regulatory developments including proposed rulemakings, supervisory guidance, and enforcement trends; translate developments into practical guidance.
  • Develop and execute strategies for influencing and shaping regulatory agency rulemakings and interpretations including the preparation of comment letters, and engagement with regulatory agencies.
  • Deliver executive-ready briefings on significant regulatory developments and emerging risks.
  • Partner and align with Government Relations to support legislative and regulatory advocacy efforts.
  • Provide expert legal analysis and guidance on federal and state regulatory frameworks applicable to Early Warning’s business.
  • Interpret and advise on rulemakings and guidance issued by the OCC, FDIC, Federal Reserve, U.S. Treasury, OFAC, FinCEN, CFPB, FTC, and relevant state regulators.
  • Support Compliance, Product, Strategy, and support functions to ensure timely awareness, understanding and operationalization of new and changes to existing regulatory requirements applicable to the company’s business strategy, objectives and operations.
  • Support product development and commercial initiatives by providing timely, risk-calibrated legal advice and practical insights.
