Role Overview: The Assistant General Counsel will be a member of the employment law team to provide advice and counsel to the Human Resources Department and to the businesses.

Requirements

  • JD required
  • Admission to the New York State Bar
  • At least four years of related experience
  • Superior written and oral communications skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and executive presence
  • A well-balanced consultative approach and the ability to work with business and legal colleagues across all levels
  • Demonstrated ability to approach issues with both a rigorous attention to detail and a big picture strategic focus
  • Strong cross-functional risk spotting skills
  • Proven record of prioritizing multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines
  • High level of integrity with strong decision-making skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment
  • Ability and experience making independent decisions

Responsibilities

  • As a member of the Employment Law practice team provide legal advice and counseling on all employment related issues, including hiring, performance management, employee relations, terminations, leaves of absence and accommodations, wage and hour, internal investigations, compensation, and immigration matters
  • Draft, develop and implement workplace policies in collaboration with Human Resources and other functions
  • Work with and manage outside counsel on employment related disputes
  • Draft position statements to the EEOC, state human rights organizations, DOL
  • Represent Company before administrative agencies
  • Actively monitor employment related legislation to ensure Company policies are compliant with the law
  • Draft employment agreements, severance agreements and other employment related agreements
  • Working with outside counsel evaluate eligibility of employees for visa status and prepare and file employment-based nonimmigrant and immigrant petitions
