Primary Purpose A qualified attorney with experience in large construction project transactions, including engineering, procurement and construction agreements (EPC).

Requirements

  • An LLB or JD from an accredited law school and be licensed to practice law in the relevant jurisdictions.
  • At least 7 to 10 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience in construction contracting, including EPC models.
  • Requires excellent analytical abilities.
  • Must have the ability to communicate clearly – both orally and in writing, formally and informally; to read and analyze legal and legislative materials and other data; to work in stressful conditions under time deadlines.
  • Experience in direct counsel to business clients.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with both EPC and GMP models.
  • Experience with the electric and/or gas utility business or other regulated company or industry.
  • Experience with construction of large public projects.

Responsibilities

  • Under minimal supervision, negotiates, drafts and leads numerous complex and significant construction projects for transmission and distribution assets, including contracting through an EPC (traditional and progressive) and Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) model; evaluates legal and business risks and liabilities of the projects; and advises clients during all phases of project contracting.
  • Works closely and cooperatively with internal legal colleagues (e.g., regulatory, litigation, labor & employment, and environmental), outside counsel (at times), and other business departments to ensure timely and compliant project completion; coordinates with business and litigation teams on warranty, breach, and other performance issues; provides guidance and training within this transactional subject area; and interprets and applies internal policies consistent with the law.
  • Prepares budgets and oversight of outside counsel management
  • Other corporate and commercial transactional projects / duties, as assigned.
  • Supports leadership and colleagues in the ongoing management of relationships and matters on behalf of the Company, including with internal clients, outside counsel, and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrates superior legal judgment in the business context.
  • Demonstrates innovation; generates new ideas and devises original and successful solutions, programs or actions.
