About The Position

Provides legal advice and serves as in-house counsel to Strategic Education on a wide variety of matters Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Primary responsibility for negotiating and drafting a variety of contracts such as agreements with corporate clients, vendors, and consultants. Draft, revise and enforce policies governing contract review and execution. Manage and optimize contract review process, from concept to executed contract, in a manner that ensures comprehensive review to protect Company’s interests while also ensuring speed and efficiency. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including internal subject matter experts and business leaders, during contract review process. Assist with litigation and administrative proceedings involving contracts and commercial disputes. Investigate legal issues and recommend action to administrators, primarily related to the Company’s contractual obligations. Assist with general corporate matters. Provides legal and compliance training to in-house clients.

Requirements

  • Excellent analytical, oral, and written communications skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong computer/word processing skills, including knowledge of standard Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability and willingness to apply independent judgment in a dynamic environment.
  • At least three years of experience in the practice of law.
  • Bar admission in one or more of the following jurisdictions: Virginia, Maryland, Washington, DC., or Minnesota.
  • Bachelor’s degree and JD from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Bar admission in one or more of the following jurisdictions: Virginia, Minnesota, Maryland, or Washington, DC.
  • Must be able to travel 10% of the time.
  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
  • Must be able to work more than 40 hours per week when business needs warrant.
  • Access information using a computer.
  • Effectively communicate, both up and down the management chain.
  • Effectively cope with stressful situations.
  • Strong mental acuity.
  • Regular, dependable attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this job.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred some experience in negotiating/drafting contracts.
  • Experience with contract management software.
  • Experience with SaaS contracts preferred.
  • Higher education experience preferred.
