About The Position

Provides legal advice and serves as in-house counsel to Strategic Education on a wide variety of matters. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Assist with federal regulatory matters related to two accredited institutions of higher education. Assist with litigation and administrative proceedings to which the company is a party. Provide legal analysis and advice to administrators on policy matters, especially regulatory compliance issues. Investigate legal issues and recommend action to administrators. Negotiate and draft contracts: draft legal documents and policies. Research federal and state legal questions. Assist with general corporate matters. Review university programs, procedures, and policies for legal compliance. Provide legal and compliance training to in-house clients.

Requirements

  • Excellent analytical, oral, and written communications skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong computer/word processing skills, including knowledge of standard Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability and willingness to apply independent judgment in a dynamic environment.
  • At least three years of experience in the practice of law.
  • Bachelor’s degree and JD from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Bar admission, or ability to become admitted, in one or more of the following jurisdictions: Virginia, Minnesota, Maryland, or Washington, DC.
  • Must be able to travel 10% of the time.
  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
  • Must be able to work more than 40 hours per week when business needs warrant.
  • Access information using a computer.
  • Effectively communicate, both up and down the management chain.
  • Effectively cope with stressful situations.
  • Strong mental acuity.
  • Regular, dependable attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this job.
