About the position

The Assistant Football (Offensive Skill-RB/WR) position at Byron P. Steele II High School is a dual role that combines teaching and coaching responsibilities. The primary purpose of this role is to provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. The position requires the development of competencies and skills that enable students to function successfully in society. The role also includes assisting the Head Coach in designing strategies, offense, defense, schemes, and techniques for the sport, while ensuring compliance with UIL and other association rules.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the district's curriculum program.
  • Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.
  • Conduct assessments of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Establish and maintain open communication with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
  • Assist in organizing and leading UIL Summer athletic camps for the sport.
  • Supervise assigned teacher aide(s).
  • Assist the Head Coach with UIL forms, physicals, inventory, activity accounts, and budget for the sport.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned.
  • At least one year of student teaching or approved internship.
  • Valid driver's license with a driving record that meets District requirements.

Nice-to-haves

  • ESL certificate preferred or willingness to acquire for Math/Science/Social Studies teaching.
  • ESL certificate required for English Language Arts teaching.
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required special education endorsements for assignments.

Benefits

  • Teacher Pay Schedule plus Athletic Assistant Football Stipend of $7,500.
  • Possible 2nd Sport stipend ranging from $1,700 to $7,000.
