About The Position

The assistant football coach is responsible for assisting the head football coach in running an NCAA Division I (FCS) football program by recruiting academically qualified prospective students-athletes, developing and implementing training sessions, practices and game plans, educating and coaching student-athletes, and supporting student-athletes in their personal, academic and athletic development at Merrimack College. This full-time position reports directly to the head football coach and must act in accordance with NCAA Division I (FCS), Merrimack’s Athletic Member Conference(s) and Merrimack College rules, regulations and policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • 1-2 years of previous playing and/or coaching experience
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours and a flexible schedule
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and intercollegiate athletics
  • Demonstrated recruiting skills and knowledge
  • Knowledge of video editing and production
  • Commitment to supporting the academic success and overall well-being of student-athletes
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills including the ability to prioritize and complete tasks by established deadlines

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate all aspects of Special Teams at the direction of the head football coach.
  • Participate in the recruitment of high-quality student-athletes, including managing a recruiting area and involvement in on-campus visits.
  • Participate in the development of student-athletes, personally, academically and athletically.
  • Assist in coaching a position group; help plan and run training sessions and practices.
  • Scout opposing teams and assist in the breakdown of video for teaching purposes and game planning.
  • Attend coach and student-athlete meetings.
  • Help monitor the academic progress of student-athletes.
  • Represent the program with the highest level of professionalism, sportsmanship and integrity.
  • Help foster and maintain a culture that demonstrates a commitment to NCAA rules compliance and institutional policies.
  • Participate in departmental activities including staff meetings, compliance education, guest speakers and other events/meetings.
  • Fulfill other specific areas of responsibility related to the program as assigned by the head football coach.
