About The Position

Waste Pro is looking for a motivated and experienced Assistant Fleet Manager, to join our maintenance team of diesel mechanics in Pompano. This important managerial role involves supervising a team of skilled diesel mechanics, managing workflow, and ensuring the safe and efficient operation of Waste Pro’s fleet of vehicles, equipment, and containers. Additionally, you will step in as the Manager-on-Duty when needed, handling various management responsibilities to ensure smooth operations. The Assistant Fleet Manager reports directly to the Fleet Manager and plays a key role in supporting the Division’s maintenance operations. This leadership position helps guide and support the maintenance staff while ensuring daily processes run smoothly and efficiently. Responsibilities include assisting with inspections, repairs, preventive maintenance, vehicle readiness, and overall shop organization. In this role, you’ll work side-by-side with the Fleet Manager and Operations teams to keep the fleet safe, reliable, and cost-effective. Requirements

  • Knowledge and ability to diagnose and repair engine, transmission, brake, suspension, electrical, hydraulic, body components and systems related to Heave Duty and Light Duty Trucks.
  • Knowledge of fuel systems,
  • A high school diploma or G.E.D. certification and two years of vehicle / hydraulic maintenance or welding experience.
  • Minimum of two years supervisory or progressively responsible experience in a lead role.
  • Valid Class A or B CDL. Must meet Waste Pro requirements to operate trucks and other equipment used.

Nice To Haves

  • Mechanic school certification and / or ASE certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the departmental hiring, training, coaching, performance management, discipline, scheduling of work assignments, and overtime authorization.
  • Maintains an ongoing preventive/corrective maintenance program which sets the standard for service excellence.
  • Reviews status reports including road calls, breakdowns, parts inventory, repairs, and safety performance.
  • Provides hands-on maintenance assistance as needed.
  • Education of driver responsibilities as it relates to DVIR's, operation of fleet vehicles, and basic CDL requirements.
  • Assures all maintenance-related data is available for input in the vehicle maintenance system.
  • Monitor Dossier efficiencies to include inventory control, goals for improved performance, monitoring, measuring and reporting.
  • Assists in purchasing of new vehicles, equipment, tools and containers.
  • Responsible for establishing maintenance related training sessions that improve overall fleet condition and operational knowledge of drivers, mechanics, and shop personnel.
  • Administer and monitor regional adherence to federal and state programs and oversees maintenance in accordance with EPA and other mandatory regulations.
  • Verifies implementations of required DOT, OSHA, EPA regulations and monitors conformance as required on an ongoing basis. Coordinate efforts with Regional Maintenance Manager, local Safety, and Corporate Safety.
  • Ensuring efficient utilization, vehicle maintenance quality, and transportation to ready-lines.
  • Fleet inventory/condition reporting, including out of service listing, matched to asset list.
  • Assists with divisional maintenance budgets.
  • Responsible for implementation/monitoring of all fleet maintenance activities (e.g.Pre/Post pre-trip, safety lane, warranty recovery, tire standards, oil/lubricants, major component failure, and all new initiatives).
  • Facilitate movement of equipment between division ensuring proper inspections and delivery of equipment in ready condition.
  • Evaluate body damage estimates as it relates to maintenance and fleet functions; manages cost controls and enhances vendor service.
  • Evaluate equipment performance and recommend modifications and/or alternate vendors based on maintenance/costing information.
  • Analyze service issues related to fleet maintenance and performs root cause analysis, recommends remediation methodologies and escalates as needed to address issues.

  • Supports efforts to create useful metrics and performance (on-line/off-line) diagnostic reporting tools (e.g. machinery dynamics) to support fleet quality trending and fleet maintenance performance.
