About The Position

The New York Stock Exchange (an Intercontinental Exchange company) is seeking an Assistant Fire/Life Safety Coordinator. As a member of the Security Department, the Assistant Fire/Life Safety Coordinator is responsible for implementing and administering the Fire Safety/Emergency Action Plan for the building. The individual will oversee and staff the Fire Command Station, and report to the Fire-Life Safety Coordinator. The Assistant Fire-Life Safety Coordinator acts as a liaison with Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) and advises and provides information to the FDNY during all operations. He/she helps supervise and train the Fire Brigade, Floor Wardens, Deputy Floor Wardens and Building Evacuation Supervisors. Additionally, the Assistant Fire/Life Safety Coordinator maintains, records and performs inspections as required by Law; conducts, supervises and evaluates fire drills; and will share responsibility for the implementation of the Emergency Action Plan.

Requirements

  • 10+ years as a full-time member of a firefighting or fire safety/prevention experience in the City of New York, including supervisory experience and Hi-Rise specific training and/or previous experience as a Hi-Rise Fire Safety Director
  • Must be able to relate with fire safety vendors and be able to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization through excellent communications skills
  • Must be available 24/7 to respond quickly when necessary to fire safety issues. Must be present or ensure coverage exists with the Fire/Life Safety Coordinator, during normal business hours as defined
  • Must be organized and detailed regarding documentation of records for full compliance with all relevant statutory and regulatory requirements
  • Must be able to deal with and maintain the highest level of confidentiality
  • Must possess or can obtain the F-89 license for Fire/Life Safety Director within 120 days of the date of hire
  • Assists the Fire/Life Safety Coordinator train FS/EAP Brigade and other FLS staff, including conducting initial and periodic refresher training to maintain the state of readiness of such staff
  • Must possess certifications in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  • Must have knowledge of facilities engineering systems, and fire alarm systems
  • Must have proficiency in the use of a PC including the following software and applications; Microsoft Office (Internet Explorer, Outlook, Word, Excel), and Corporate specific applications used to record and balance expenses, time and labor, and prepare incident reports
  • Must be able to react and perform with little or no supervision. Must have the ability to detect and take action to resolve minor fire alarm system problems and/or provide for the appropriate resolution
  • Must be able to perform multiple tasks and functions simultaneously, and under pressure. This is especially true during emergencies when the individual may be the focal point of information management and distribution
  • Must also be able to successfully interact with all levels of the ICE community (Shareholders, Board Members, employees, vendors, guests, contract staff, and facilities engineering personnel) as well as external personnel
  • This is a day shift position (9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday). Must be able to work occasional extended hours and/or an occasional weekend day shift

Responsibilities

  • Manage the Fire Command Station operations which include overseeing the Emergency Action Plan
  • Report to Fire Command Station for all fire alarms and all other emergencies as specified in the Emergency Action Plan
  • Direct all emergency operations and liaisons with responding FDNY personnel or other first responders
  • Make appropriate announcements and direct actions of all building occupants, as per Emergency Action Plan (EAP)
  • Perform fire and evacuation drills as required by code
  • Assist the Fire/Life Safety Coordinator in training the Fire Brigade, Floor Wardens, Deputy Floor Wardens and Building Evacuation Supervisors
  • Test Fire Command station, warden phones, PA system, elevator recall, and all other parts of the emergency system as required
  • Respond to all safety related concerns as they arise
  • Perform building inspections, including fire extinguisher inspections, inspection of life safety equipment. Inspect surrounding grounds for hazards
  • Enforce fire safety code requirements as they relate to building occupancy. Maintain daily fire log
  • Interact with vendors, including assuring vendor performance consistent with contractual terms, for some of the requirements hereinbefore
  • Perform all other duties as assigned or required
