About The Position

The position involves supporting the SPS estimating department with a complete system review, which includes specification review, means and methods, layout, trade coordination, vendor quote requests, and vendor quote reviews. The role requires reviewing fire alarm estimates for completeness and vendor quotes, recommending vendors, and purchasing systems. Additionally, the position entails reviewing conduit/cable layouts and wiring schemes designed by vendors to ensure efficient installations. The candidate will also review vendor submittals and shop drawings prior to submission to engineers, architects, and fire marshals. Collaboration with project managers, fire alarm technicians, general contractors, vendors, and fire marshals is essential during the engineering, permitting, and installation process for fire alarm systems. The role includes engineering and designing fire alarm systems, developing CAD drawings, pulling necessary permits, and submitting vendor shop drawings for permit review. The candidate will set up a fire alarm job book, meet with technicians and superintendents to review job layouts, and ensure compliance with quality control documents. Scheduling inspections with the fire marshal and supervising acceptance tests are also part of the responsibilities. At project completion, the candidate must ensure all documentation is provided to the building owner and archived appropriately.

Requirements

  • Experience in fire alarm system design and engineering.
  • Proficiency in CAD software for developing drawings.
  • Knowledge of fire alarm codes and regulations.
  • Ability to review and interpret vendor quotes and submittals.
  • Strong communication skills for collaboration with various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Support the SPS estimating department with complete system review including specification review, means and methods, layout, trade coordination, vendor quote requests, and vendor quote reviews.
  • Review fire alarm estimates for completeness.
  • Review vendor quotes, recommend vendor, and purchase system.
  • Review conduit/cable layout and wiring schemes designed by vendors to ensure efficient installations.
  • Review vendor submittals and shop drawings prior to submission to engineer/architect and fire marshal.
  • Work with project managers, fire alarm technicians, general contractors, vendors, and fire marshals during the engineering, permitting, and installation process for fire alarm systems.
  • Engineer and design fire alarm systems including device layout, conduit and cable routing, voltage drop calculations, and battery calculations.
  • Develop drawings in CAD as required.
  • Pull permits for the work including building permit, electrical, and fire alarm permits when required.
  • Submit vendor shop drawings and submittal booklets to the engineer/architect and fire marshal for permit review.
  • Work with fire marshal, vendors, general contractor, and project managers to answer job-specific questions during the approval process.
  • Set up fire alarm job book including job specifications, vendor submittals, purchase orders, and all pertinent job information.
  • Meet with fire alarm technician to review job layout and installation requirements after fire marshal approval and permits are secured.
  • Meet with job superintendent to arrange for manpower to meet job schedules and deadlines.
  • Work with vendors to schedule equipment shipping dates and deliveries.
  • Work with fire alarm technicians to ensure all company quality control documents are followed and filled out properly.
  • Schedule all fire alarm inspections with the fire marshal and participate in/supervise acceptance tests.
  • At project completion, ensure a copy of all quality control documents, permits, approved drawings, and pertinent job information is given to the building owner and archived.
