The Assistant Ferry Operations Manager plays a crucial role in overseeing and managing the operations of ferry services between Galveston and Port Bolivar, TX. This position involves leading a team responsible for the safe transit of vehicles and passengers across one of the busiest ports in the world. The role includes budget management, compliance with regulations, and ensuring efficient daily operations of the ferry services.

  • Assumes ferry operations and support functions in the absence of the manager and assistant manager.
  • Assists in writing and monitoring the unit budget and administering the annual operating budget.
  • Directs and monitors daily work shifts for employees and adjusts schedules according to traffic.
  • Ensures compliance with U.S. Coast Guard rules and regulations and the Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) requirements.
  • Monitors unit contract expenditures and budget.
  • Acts as principal assistant to the Ferry Operations Manager for operational, administrative, and personnel management matters.
  • Plans and oversees implementation of the ferry unit's Heavy Weather Bill.
  • Supervises and coordinates daily vessel operations and traffic control.
  • Supervises the fleet of captains and other specialized positions to ensure safe and efficient operation of the ferry service.
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • 4 years of experience in marine operations, with 2 years in a managerial/supervisory role.
  • Valid driver's license and required US Coast Guard (USCG) certifications appropriate for the position and vessel being operated.
  • Must obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) at the time of hire.
  • Experience in contract administration/management systems.
