About The Position

The Farm at Augusta Health (AH) is a partnership between Rodale Institute and Augusta Health. This partnership aims to continue and expand a successful and impactful farm-to-hospital model. The Assistant Farm Manager will participate in all day-to-day farm activities as well as manage seasonal workers, lead tours, and give presentations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Five years of experience in agronomic crop production
  • Ability to drive farm equipment, tractors, combines, etc. is required
  • Must be able and willing to work in all types of weather individually or within a tea
  • Must be able to lift in excess of 50 pounds
  • Must have good communications skills (both written and verbal)
  • Must be flexible in hours as farm work can be unpredictable.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat

Nice To Haves

  • Previous management experience is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Conduct day-to-day farm operations in relationship to crop production.
  • Field responsibilities include, but are not limited to soil preparation, planting, harvesting, weed, pest and disease management, equipment maintenance and repair, etc.
  • Manage and coordinate labor efforts among seasonal workers and volunteers when available
  • Document field operations on Rodale Institute forms to satisfy organic certification requirements, research data collection needs, financial accounting and maintain production records on a regular basis
  • Lead organic certification efforts and participate with onsite inspections
  • Work closely with the mechanics to coordinate maintenance schedules for tractor(s), truck(s) and other equipment to ensure success in field operations, and property maintenance
  • Assist in coordinating landscaping and property maintenance
  • Assist with preparing yearly field/crop plans
  • Assist with facility maintenance when needed
  • Operate equipment (tractors, tractor implements, small engine equipment, and hand tools) in a safe and efficient manner
  • Educate and train seasonal staff and volunteers to carry out the day-to-day activities of the operation
  • Provide field tours and presentations for outreach and education when necessary
  • Coordinate with Rodale Institute staff for travel needs and purchasing supplies
  • Assist the Community Outreach Department with preparing outreach materials
  • Prepare an end-of-the year production report
  • Coordinate with Master Trainer for RIFT student training when necessary
  • Participate in the hiring process for new positions
  • Manage packhouse and distribution activities
  • Assist with managing staff schedules and timesheets
  • Other duties may/will be assigned as needed
