About The Position

The Assistant Farm Manager at Hormel Foods is responsible for assisting the Farm Manager in maximizing Grow Out Farm productivity and profit. This includes planning, organizing, directing, and controlling activities in assigned Brood or Grow Facility to meet and exceed customer specifications. The role involves documenting plans and programs, promoting positive employee morale, maintaining product quality, and ensuring compliance with company policies and safety standards.

Requirements

  • Good work history with stability in previous employment (minimum 1 year).
  • Must have met performance expectations in previous roles.
  • Valid driver license with good vehicle operating records.
  • Good physical condition to wear safety protection for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry at least 50 pounds.
  • Willingness to work 7 days/week up to 2 weeks at a time.
  • Good math ability for inventory and record keeping.
  • Good mechanical aptitude and ability to use hand tools.

Nice To Haves

  • Four years of experience in poultry, preferably with turkeys.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation of company principles and philosophies within assigned farm departments.
  • Assist with the training of all employees at the assigned brood/grow farm.
  • Manage and monitor the environmental conditions of the farm's flocks.
  • Review issues with the Farm Manager and collaborate on solutions.
  • Enforce sanitation and biosecurity procedures as per company policy.
  • Maintain a neat and orderly working area.
  • Ensure timely scheduling and ordering of feed.
  • Complete company safety audits with satisfactory results.
  • Implement preventative maintenance and repairs for facilities and equipment.
  • Review emergency procedures with Farm Manager and employees annually.
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures.
  • Account for all farm/flock inputs and outputs accurately.
  • Understand technical fundamentals necessary for turkey brooding and growing operations.
  • Assist in developing profit plans and capital expenditure plans.
  • Conduct necessary jobs for proper flock performance.
  • Perform vaccination activities as per Staff Veterinarian.
  • Attend employee meetings for department activities and problem solving.
