About The Position

Southern Southeast Regional Aquaculture Association (SSRAA) SSRAA’s mission is to enhance and rehabilitate salmon production in southern Southeast Alaska to the optimum social and economic benefit of salmon users. The Southern Southeast Regional Aquaculture Association (SSRAA) has an opening for an Assistant Facilities Engineer with the Facilities and Infrastructure Department . This department is based in Ketchikan, AK and serves all SSRAA. SSRAA operates seven hatcheries and several remote release sites within southern Southeast Alaska. This position requires travel by boat and small aircraft and is responsible for assisting the facilities engineer with supervising, planning, coordinating, and completing facility and infrastructure projects using company staff, temporary labor or private contractors. Must be able to demonstrate a successful work history with exposure to multiple trades to include plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and carpentry. The ideal candidate must have the ability to develop healthy working relationships with vendors, contractors, co-workers, other SSRAA departments, and have the willingness to share knowledge and skills. The ability to obtain an Alaska Driver’s License is required and all applicants will undergo a background check. Department: Facilities and Infrastructure FLSA Status: Exempt Salary Reports to: Facilities Engineer Location: Based in Ketchikan but actual work sites will vary Summary of Position: This position is responsible for assisting the facilities engineer with supervising, planning, coordinating, and completing facility and infrastructure projects using company staff, temporary labor or private contractors. As directed estimates costs for projects and provides individual site support to hatchery managers and maintenance staff as needed. As directed develops and implements utility plans and performs systems evaluations to establish operational efficiency.

Requirements

  • Successful work history with exposure to multiple trades to include plumbing, electrical, and carpentry.
  • Experience with project management
  • Gathering and analyzing data, blueprints, and reports
  • Determining facility and equipment specifications
  • Analyzing project costs and preparing budgets
  • Assisting with the design and implementation of facility expansion, and quality controls
  • Assisting with the evaluation of operational systems and facility infrastructure to ascertain and improve operational efficiency
  • Planning and coordinating infrastructure and equipment maintenance schedules and activities
  • Assisting with coordinating and overseeing contractors performing maintenance activities while ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, building codes, and health and safety standards
  • Experience working with multiple departments within an organization and outside contractors.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel or compatible equivalent.
  • Ability to develop cost estimates and making-ordering materials lists for maintenance projects
  • Experience preparing reports and compliance documentation
  • Troubleshooting and problem solving skills
  • Ability to triage when working with limited resources

  • Positions within the Facilities and Infrastructure Department will be required to submit to pre-employment drug screening due to work under federal grant projects.
  • Position requires physical/repetitive work, the ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull, stoop, bend over, stretch, climb and sometimes work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to lift and carry in excess of 75 lbs.
  • Supervise and provide oversight to employees and outside contractors.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the facilities engineer communicate company needs.
  • Consults on the overall maintenance program and performs maintenance and repairs to all SSRAA facilities- specifically focused on those more complex systems where repairs are beyond typical site maintenance staff capabilities.
  • Become familiar and knowledgeable with all sites facilities and systems to be able to assist in troubleshooting and to have a centralized knowledge base for the company.
  • Assists in the preparation and monitoring of operational maintenance and capital equipment and project budget company-wide for facilities and infrastructure working collaboratively with hatchery managers in the development of their site specific budget needs.
  • Organizes and records maintenance schedules on equipment.
  • Performs preventative maintenance and repairs to equipment and facilities and/or assists hatchery managers to coordinate their site specific maintenance program with their maintenance staff.
  • Maintains a materials and supplies inventory and supervises its distribution and/or assists in the development and preservation of each site inventory as needed, ensuring appropriate usage.
  • Assists the facilities engineer to perform, or supervise a variety of new construction projects.
  • Develops plans and materials lists, orders materials and supplies, coordinates project priorities with appropriate SSRAA staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by facilities engineer
