About The Position

Haycon is a future-facing construction company, focused on building high performance, sustainable residential buildings. Our cutting edge methodology doesn’t just pertain to our construction methods – it also applies to our estimating and pre-construction functionality. The role of the Assistant Estimator is to apply their Data Science or Computer Science background to our pre-construction workflow to generate structured data and actionable insights for all our projects, most often with limited information. Supporting the Lead Estimator, this role is suited to a self-starter with a keen interest in the construction industry. Using tools such as (Excel, Python, Togal.AI, Procore, AutoCAD, BuildingConnected, etc.), you will learn and contribute to the construction and project management lifecycle while leveraging internal and external data to provide Haycon and our clients with comprehensive, accurate pricing in an industry-leading manner. The Assistant Estimator will have touchpoints across many aspects of the estimation and pre-construction processes, allowing for excellent growth trajectory and professional knowledge gain. You will be heavily engaged in several duties, and interact with PM team members, clients, vendors, sub-contractors, architects, engineers, etc.

Requirements

• Ability to read and understand construction drawings
• Effective communication skills, written and verbal
• Proficiency with Bluebeam Revu, Microsoft Office suite including SharePoint, Teams, and Outlook
• Procore proficiency strongly preferred
• Degree in Data Science or Computer Science required

Nice To Haves

• Familiarity with the CSI MasterFormat work breakdown structure preferred
• Familiarity with construction management & AIA contracting requirements, preferred

Responsibilities

• Communicate with new and existing clients to obtain necessary information to create construction estimates
• Perform quantity take-offs and generate scopes of work for all trades/materials like flooring, plumbing & lighting fixtures, siding material, glazing, all interior/exterior doors, etc.
• Contact Sub Contractors and vendors and obtain proposals and quotes from them
• Identify and communicate with W/MBE businesses as required by project type
• Take the initiative to communicate with the Lead Estimator and our internal team to prioritize projects for estimation and meet deadlines
• Maintain a pricing database with up-to-date vendor and contractor pricing
• The creation of this database, along with automated methods for keeping it up to date will be a significant early task of this role
• Maintain Master Sub Contractor list, updating as necessary with latest information
• Work closely with Project Management team to make sure all the drawings and documents in Procore are accurate and updated
