About The Position

The Assistant Environmental Engineer position is an entry-level role responsible for supporting the stormwater engineering team within the Bureau of Land Resources (BLR). The primary focus is on implementing the DEP's Stormwater Management Rules and reviewing land development projects that require DEP permits. The role involves ensuring compliance with stormwater management systems and interacting with various stakeholders, including applicants and project managers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental, Civil, Sanitary, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Certification of Engineer Intern for non-engineering college graduates and non-degreed candidates.

  • Knowledge of civil engineering principles related to stormwater management.
  • Familiarity with stormwater-related environmental laws and rules.
  • Experience in geographic information systems and surveying.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in day-to-day activities of the stormwater engineering team.
  • Review stormwater management plans and systems for land development projects.
  • Conduct project reviews in a timely manner.
  • Evaluate stormwater problems and communicate solutions to DEP staff, contractors, and landowners.
  • Assist with training activities and workshops.
  • Participate in pre-application and pre-submission meetings for land development projects.
