Autoliv is looking to fill the role of an Assistant Engineer at its Auburn Hills Technical Center in Michigan. The role is working under the advisement and mentorship of an Engineering Manager, Engineering Supervisor and the Engineering Technician team. The role will require effective communication along with aiding engineers and program managers with day-to-day project-specific tasks to maintain project timing and on-time deliverables supporting internal and external customers supported by the BU. The Assistant Engineer will be learning many cross-functional tasks related to both supportive engineering roles and the engineering role itself.

  • Manage data input in Autoliv systems including customer order updates, prepare shippers, create labels, and manage parts from inspection to Shipping & Receiving dock.
  • Assistance for sample build (BO/EServices for production part orders), testing (TO) including parts management.
  • Coordinate sample requests, build, traceability, modification, distribution, and analysis of test parts.
  • Aid Engineers with deliverables such as stack-ups, drawing changes, DFMEA, DVP&R, Test Reports, BOMs, system tests, and customer interaction.
  • Interface with PLM and GEO databases to load and modify documents.
  • Create test plans, submit requests, and track test progress using GEO.
  • Part and fixturing measurements (inertia, density, mass, gaps, etc.).
  • Support Project Managers and Engineers with tasks including, but not limited to: Submit orders to pull parts, manage inventory control, purge dates, etc.
  • Submit Test Order requests and follow up with testing and testing setup.
  • Submit Prototype Build Order requests and follow up with build documentation and component material inventories.
  • Post-test part teardown analysis and documentation.
  • Warranty part tear down and analysis support.
  • Highlight opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • A bachelor's in an Engineering Technology field is required.
  • Technician experience in the automotive industry for 1-3 years is preferred.
  • Demonstrated hands-on technical experience in previous roles.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office with ability to quickly become proficient user in Autoliv systems.
  • Must have good interpersonal skills to effectively work cross-functionally.
  • Textile sewing experience preferred.
  • Experience working with automotive product development and/or manufacturing safety, cosmetic and structural components.
