About The Position

There is currently one (1) opening for Assistant Engineer I located at La Verne, Los Angeles, California. This recruitment may result in an eligibility list. The Corrosion Engineering Team 2 is responsible for ensuring the reliability and performance of critical infrastructure assets through assessment, testing, and continuous improvement efforts. The team focuses on evaluating materials, supporting asset rehabilitation, and investigating failures to help maintain safe and dependable operations. As an Assistant Engineer I, you will join a collaborative team environment that supports learning, development, and hands-on experience across a variety of engineering functions. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field by hired date. Related degree is defined as: Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Corrosion Engineering, Materials Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Polymers and Coatings Science, Polymer Engineering, Process Engineering, and any other related degrees.
  • Valid California Class C Driver’s License or equivalent (required at time of application) that allows you to drive during your employment.
  • Applicants for employment with The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California must have work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States (i.e., H1-B or other employment-based immigration case).

Responsibilities

  • Learn and assist with infrastructure reliability assessments
  • Support construction materials performance testing and evaluation efforts
  • Help develop and implement solutions to prevent infrastructure failures and rehabilitate assets
  • Learn and assist with forensic investigations related to materials and metallurgy
  • Support efforts to ensure compliance with reliability and performance standards
  • Collaborate with engineers, operations staff, and external partners
  • Build foundational engineering skills through hands-on projects and field support
