About The Position

Food & Wine is seeking a smart, proactive, and highly organized Assistant Editor, Special Projects to support the editorial production of its industry-defining live events, including the Food & Wine Classic in Aspen, the Food & Wine Classic in Charleston, Best New Chefs, and new events. Working closely with the Special Projects Editor, this role sits at the intersection of editorial, events, and culture—helping shape programming that drives audience engagement, strengthens Food & Wine’s authority, and supports both consumer and sponsor revenue. This is an ideal role for an editor with hands-on event experience who understands how editorial storytelling comes to life on stage, on-site, across digital platforms, and in the pages of a magazine. The Assistant Editor, Special Projects will contribute meaningfully to the development and execution of live programming, manage talent communications, and help translate Food & Wine’s editorial voice into unforgettable experiences. Hybrid 3x a week- (New York) In-office Expectations: This position is hybrid in-office, with the ability to work remotely for up to 2 days per week.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience in print and/or digital media.
  • 2–4 years of experience in editorial, events, or food media, with demonstrated exposure to live event production.
  • Experience writing and editing across digital platforms; print experience is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of the U.S. food and restaurant industry, including chefs, emerging talent, and cultural tastemakers.
  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders simultaneously.
  • A collaborative, solutions-oriented mindset and comfort working across editorial, events, sales, and marketing teams.
  • Passion for live events and a clear understanding of how editorial content can drive audience engagement and brand relevance.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Special Projects Editor to plan, pitch, and produce editorial-driven programming for Food & Wine’s owned and operated events, including chef demonstrations, wine seminars, panels, tastings, and special events.
  • Help ensure event programming reflects and advances Food & Wine’s leading position in the hospitality industry, including relationships with chefs and understanding of restaurant trends and culinary storytelling.
  • Support the end-to-end editorial production process for events—from early ideation and research through execution and post-event content.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for chefs, talent, and partners, building and maintaining organized systems for proactive communication with event participants and Best New Chefs.
  • Assist in the editorial and administrative management of Best New Chefs, including coordination with the Restaurant Editor, events team, and stakeholders on the mentorship program, launch events, and related initiatives.
  • Participate in daily standups and weekly cross-functional meetings with editorial, events, sales, marketing, social, and video teams.
  • Collaborate on special editorial projects tied to events, including on-site coverage, social and video content, and sponsor-adjacent programming where appropriate.
  • Pitch and write stories across platforms, including Food & Wine.com, social, video, and print, with a particular focus on event-driven and chef-led storytelling.
  • Conduct editorial research and provide administrative support to the editorial leadership team, including the Editor in Chief, as needed.
  • Help manage timelines, materials, and internal documentation to keep special projects running smoothly and on deadline.
