About The Position

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Assistant Director at the YMCA of Northern Utah maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals, promotes the potential of all youth, and provides a quality experience to both youth and their families. This is a seasonal position. Requirements

  • Experience with Non-profit and/or youth program organizations preferred.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ camp and/or YMCA experience preferred.
  • 1+ years supervisory experience leading a team and producing desired results.
  • Computer proficiency thorough knowledge of: Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel and Google Platform.
  • Must have exceptional customer service skills and strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and credibility quickly.
  • Hardworking, energetic, problem-solving leadership style.
  • Proficiency in developing and leading a team of staff and volunteers.
  • Experience managing and monitoring budgets.
  • Ability to manage time efficiently to maximize effectiveness in staff oversight, relationship building, and administration functions.
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications required; will be provided in training if candidate does not have current certification
  • Meet the YMCA of Northern Utah Driver Requirements.
  • Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds, with experience working with diverse populations.

  • Lifeguard certification preferred for YMCA Mill Hollow.

Responsibilities

  • Pr ovide supervision and care to campers that require additional support throughout the camp week.
  • Support the camp staff in the planning, preparing, and facilitation of programs and activities; support the staff in their cabins, program areas, and during mealtimes; and provide experienced leadership in the implantation of policies and procedures.
  • Support in the planning, implementing and oversee new and additional camping programs
  • Provide quality experiences for all: Deliver outstanding experiences for members, participants, internal customers and others
  • Build warm and supportive relationships; consistently greet and assist everyone in a positive way; strive to provide service that will exceed expectations
  • Respond to concerns and complaints in a way that makes each person feel valued; initiate action for prompt resolution to any problems
  • Build and nurture strategic relationships to enhance support to the Y.
  • Continuously maintain a safe working environment for self and others.
  • Encourage health and wellness, honesty, caring, respect, responsibility, teamwork, good sportsmanship, and other character-based qualities at camp.
  • Mentor staff; Create and maintain a positive and effective work environment with high staff morale.
  • Direct and manage staff meetings and trainings during the summer
  • Ensure all staff meet training requirements
  • Provides opportunities for youth to lead, problem-solve, and make decisions and choices within the program and provides daily opportunities for youth to reflect on and respond to their experiences.
  • Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.
  • Collect, maintain and evaluate operational records relating to ACA audit accountability.
  • Communicate issues and problems as they arise to the Camp Director.
  • Problem solve with support staff to resolve all issues.
  • Models relationship-building skills in all interactions; develops and maintains collaborative relationships with staff, youth parents and other community stakeholders.
  • Assist in the management and care of the physical facilities and equipment in all program areas.
  • Follows all policies, procedures, and standards as established by the law or the Y (e.g., safety or emergency procedures, behavior guidance strategies, child abuse prevention policies); makes ADA accommodations where appropriate; maintains the program site, equipment, and required program records.
  • Ensure that camp staff know and follow safety and educational procedures of camp programming.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
