About The Position

East Side House (ESH) is a community resource in the Bronx and Northern Manhattan. We believe education is the key that enables all people to create economic and civic opportunities for themselves, their families, and their community. ESH’s workforce development programs align with our mission by providing high quality programs and services within community centers and school partnerships. Reporting to the Program Director, the Assistant Director is responsible to manage the performance-based contract program designed to increase the earnings and employment of working-age residents in designated public housing developments. The Assistant Director will assist with job-related services, financial help and benefits, and community support. This position’s direct reports include a community outreach team and a Clinical & Wellness Coordinator and interacts with other programs within the workforce development portfolio.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum of 5 years’ experience in similar position
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work with a culturally diverse population
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, presentation and leadership skills. Demonstrated initiative, creativity, flexibility and follow-through
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Strong computer skills and technological experience including Microsoft Office (Word, Teams, etc.) Google Suite (Google Classroom, Docs, and Sheets) and similar programs
  • Employees must be clear to work at ESH. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background checks and/or screenings.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, design, and oversee outreach and marketing strategy in Mill Brook, Mitchel and Mott Haven developments; report on progress towards program performance; act as Management Information System (MIS) liaison, both for HRA systems and for Jobs Plus database
  • Prepare weekly, monthly and program reports for staff, leadership, and funder.
  • Coordinate, participate, and report on quarterly goals to funder
  • Coordinate and communicate with sub-contractors, NYCHA administration and community leaders.
  • Assist in development and implementation of Professional Development trainings and in-services.
  • Assist with facilitating inter-agency and inter-program communication, represent agency at community and funder meetings.
  • Ensuring monthly events aimed at recruitment, pre-employment workshops and post-employment workshops take place
  • Monitor the entry of job placements and retention milestones in PACS in line with monthly/quarterly goals
  • Monitor reports submitted by Career Development Specialists to ensure alignment with what is reported for placement in PACS
  • Facilitation of communication between Career Development Specialists and departments for the purposes of retention, staff meeting updates, hot jobs etc
  • Ensuring monthly events aimed at mental health take place monthly
  • Ensuring that meetings/trainings attended by Clinical and Wellness Coordinator (CWC) during funder technical assistance period are followed up on, and ensuring any new information received by CWC from HRA (resources, systems updates, etc) are shared with staff as indicated in CWC job description.
  • Membership mental health screenings are uploaded to funder database and followed up by CWC with relevant case note tracking
  • Assist in the planning, creation, and coordination Jobs Plus education, training and certification programs onsite, including GED classes and certification based trainings
  • Ensure the input of all participant documentation and outcomes data as related to program goals.
  • Assist with collaborative efforts towards achieving three-year contract goal of 100 education/training milestones
  • Ensuring monthly events occur that are aimed at increasing financial outcomes and support for work opportunities to residents.
  • Monitoring rejected financial outcomes in funder database to ensure they are resolved before end of month/end of quarter
  • Overseeing outreach and enrollment efforts and scheduling for Mill Brook, Mitchel and Mott Haven
  • Ensuring a process to ensure all new members are invited to ongoing and consistent Orientations
  • Ensuring all key pieces of the membership process are taking place for audit purposes
  • Completion of membership packet: Membership Application and associated documents, including Job Readiness Evaluation, Career Plans and Mental Health Screening as mandated for audit purposes; Initial case notes are entered
