About The Position

This role is part of the library's succession plan due to the retirement of the Library Director later in 2026. As the Assistant Director, you will work closely with the Library Director and play a pivotal role in overseeing library operations, supporting our amazing team, and ensuring our services meet the evolving needs of the community. You'll have the opportunity to develop library services, represent CCPL at public events, and lead key initiatives that shape the library's future.

Requirements

  • MLS or MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited program or MPA.
  • At least five years of progressive library management experience, with public library experience preferred.
  • Proven track record in team leadership, fostering a positive and inclusive work culture.
  • Excellent administrative abilities, with a talent for managing multiple projects, meeting deadlines, and maintaining focus.
  • Strong knowledge of budget management, employment law, and library-related technologies.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with a guest-first approach and the ability to build positive relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Guide and support branch managers, creating an environment that encourages collaboration and high performance.
  • Engage with library staff, trustees, volunteers, and community partners to build a library that's welcoming, responsive, and impactful.
  • Drive the development of library goals in alignment with CCPL's strategic vision.
  • Oversee public services across branches, continuously enhancing service quality to meet the needs of our guests.
  • Manage volunteer programs, oversee compliance with employment laws, and maintain operational standards.
  • Utilize data and feedback to ensure our services remain relevant, efficient, and guest-responsive.
  • Build and nurture relationships with public officials, civic groups, and community partners.
  • Represent CCPL at local, state, and national events, advocating for our services and sharing the Library's impact on the community.
  • Assist in budget preparation, monitor expenditures, and support branch resource needs.
  • Approve administrative documents and coordinate training opportunities in collaboration with HR.
  • Act as the Director's representative in their absence, ensuring consistent leadership across the library system.
