About The Position

The Assistant Director will support the operations of the Visalia Navigation Center, a low-barrier, 24-hour facility. This position works closely with the Director to ensure effective daily operations, staff supervision, program coordination, and compliance with all program and funding requirements. The Assistant Director serves as a key operational leader, supporting staff across all shifts, coordinating services across internal teams and external partners, and ensuring a safe, structured, and service-oriented environment for participants.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of shelter operations, housing programs, and services for individuals experiencing homelessness.
  • Ability to supervise staff, manage conflict, and support team development.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to respond effectively in crisis situations.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and communicate effectively with diverse populations.
  • Knowledge of community resources and service coordination.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in program operations, preferably in shelter, housing, or social services settings.
  • Experience supervising staff with demonstrated leadership ability.
  • Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support daily operations of the Visalia Navigation Center, ensuring consistent service delivery in a 24/7 environment.
  • Provide supervision, guidance, and support to program staff, including coordinators, case managers, and support staff.
  • Assist in managing staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage across all shifts.
  • Support real-time operational decision-making, including response to incidents and participant-related concerns.
  • Promote a safe, welcoming, and respectful environment for all participants and staff.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and enforcement of policies and procedures.
  • Support coordination of services across shelter operations, case management, and housing programs.
  • Work closely with internal departments and external partners, including Kings Tulare Homeless Alliance, to support service delivery.
  • Participate in partner meetings and support coordination of on-site services.
  • Ensure staff maintain accurate documentation, including case notes, incident reports, and program records.
  • Support HMIS data quality and ensure timely and accurate data entry.
  • Assist in monitoring program compliance with funding requirements and agency policies.
  • Support preparation of reports, including grant and performance reports.
  • Assist in tracking program operations and supporting budget oversight.
  • Provide staff training, coaching, and performance feedback.
  • Support employee development and assist with corrective actions in coordination with HR and the Director.
  • Promote teamwork, communication, and alignment across all VNC teams.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of program operations.
