About The Position

Make your mark on Jewish student life by joining the Hillel Jewish University Center of Pittsburgh (Hillel JUC) as the Assistant Director. You’ll power Hillel by supporting efforts to connect people, vital funds and resources to our mission. Hillel JUC is seeking dynamic, thoughtful and experienced candidates for the position of Assistant Director. The Assistant Director is a key member of the senior professional team responsible for implementing Hillel’s strategic vision of Jewish life on campus. This person works closely with the Executive Director (ED) and all Hillel JUC staff and is responsible for managing, guiding and supporting the student-facing Jewish student life (JSL) team. In addition, the AD will be responsible for the engagement and community building goals across two campuses, University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University, as well as managing and approving the holistic programming budget.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of relevant work experience
  • Good sense of humor and welcoming inclusive personality
  • A team player with a can-do attitude
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Deep understanding and fluency with Judaism
  • Commitment to fostering a strong and positive relationship with Israel and Zionism
  • Proven track record of management and supervisory experience
  • Experience in program/event planning, with acute attention to detail
  • Determination and commitment to engage every Jewish student on our campuses

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the strategic vision for Jewish campus life and engagement in partnership with the ED, JSL team and student leaders
  • Lead the JSL team, facilitate regular programming staff meetings, and allocate staff resources to programs effectively
  • Manage the program budget, track engagement metrics, and ensure the team meets engagement goals
  • Oversee hiring and review processes for all JSL staff
  • Work closely with the JSL team and student leadership to create enriching Jewish life programs and activities
  • Mentor staff and student leaders, fostering meaningful Jewish experiences
  • Strategize and coordinate outreach efforts to engage Jewish students with JSL team and student leaders
  • Ensure Hillel JUC is providing meaningful, diverse and relevant Jewish and Israel learning opportunities
  • Manage effective recruitment and follow up of immersive experiences such as Birthright and Birthright Israel Onward
  • Support and enhance Shabbat and Jewish holiday experiences and engagement
  • In partnership with the ED cultivate strong relationships with senior level university officials and faculty
  • Advocate for the inclusion and support of Jewish students' safety and well-being
  • Represent Hillel to prospective families, community members, and administration
