About The Position

The Division of Student Life at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville invites applications for a newly developed Assistant Director role with the Student Counseling Center. Join the leadership team of a multi-disciplinary clinical team providing high quality, short-term therapy services at a thriving flagship University. The Assistant Director is an exempt, year-round, full-time; non-tenure track staff leadership role within the Student Counseling Center, the university's primary facility for personal counseling, psychotherapy, and mental health outreach and consultation services. The mission is to promote the psychological, educational, and social well-being of the students at the University of Tennessee and to help prepare them to be productive members of a global society. Start date to be during the summer term of 2025.

Requirements

  • Master's or Doctoral Degree in a relevant mental health discipline such as Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Counselor Education and Supervision, Marriage and Family Therapy, Social Work, or Clinical or Counseling Psychology.
  • Licensed as a Health Service Provider in the State of Tennessee with a supervisor designation as a Psychologist, Clinical Mental Health Counselor, Clinical Social Worker, or Marriage and Family Therapist or ability to obtain license and meet all full qualifications before start date.
  • Administrative and organization skills.
  • Knowledge of clinical management, documentation and processes.
  • Ability to provide individual and group psychotherapy.
  • Knowledge and ability to design and implement outreach and preventative programming to diverse audiences.
  • Public speaking skills.
  • Ability to provide intake assessment, risk assessment, and crisis intervention.
  • Ability to provide supervision and training of clinical staff.
  • Ability to provide presentations and workshops.
  • Ability to serve/contribute to university committees and activities.
  • Knowledge of development issues of college students and of collegiate mental health issues.
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to multicultural concerns.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience providing services to a college population.
  • 2-3 years clinical administrative experience.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Associate/Clinical Director and Assistant/Training Director under the supervision of the Director to ensure high-quality provision of mental health services.
  • Manage a team of 6-8 clinical providers.
  • Provide oversight to a major service area of the SCC, such as assessment and effectiveness of services, outreach and suicide prevention, psychological assessment, or another major domain.
  • Provide direct clinical services to students and clinical supervision to graduate students, interns, post-docs, or professional staff.
  • Support outreach and consultation efforts of the department.
  • Contribute to the leadership team in developing the vision, implementation, coordination and promotion of the SCC's services.
