About The Position

Organization's Summary Statement: The Office of Gift Planning at the University of Maryland, College Park, is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Director to lead the development of and day-to-day execution of the Maryland Bequest Legacy Challenge (BLC), a key initiative designed to grow the university’s future bequest commitments through strategic donor engagement and the promotion of matching gift opportunities. The Office of Gift Planning (OGP) is expected to contribute 20-25% of the overall FORWARD campaign attainment or $500M - $625M. This position will be a driving force in the activation of the BLC campus-wide to help us achieve and even exceed this ambitious goal. This role is ideal for someone with strong program management and fundraising skills, a passion for philanthropy, and a deep understanding of the impact of planned giving on the FORWARD campaign. The position will both directly solicit and collaborate closely with gift officers of all types, alumni relations, and communicators to deliver a high-impact program that encourages donors to disclose and document future support of the University of Maryland.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Three (3) years of professional development, fundraising or external relations experience.
  • Knowledge of advancement, donor, or alumni relations policies and procedures, and federal, state, and other applicable related laws, rules, regulations, and ordinances.
  • Skill in problem solving and strategic planning.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Skill in the use of Microsoft Office and Google Suite products.
  • Ability to develop and administer new policies and procedures.
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.
  • Ability to interact with donors and senior-level executives and administrators required.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and strong adherence to deadlines required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a university advancement or alumni relations environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and present data to inform strategy, planning, and decision-making.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Familiarity with bequest legacy challenge programs
  • Experience as a fundraiser
  • Strong CRM, Google Suite, and presentation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, demonstrating the ability to work well with diverse groups of constituents and colleagues, including cross-functionally with fundraising and communications teams.
