The Assistant Director for Strategic Communications reports directly to the Senior Associate Athletics Director for Strategic Communications and Creative Content. This position exists to create and implement strategic plans for the publicity, promotion and support of multiple assigned UNLV intercollegiate athletics sports programs. The primary goal of this position is to generate positive exposure and interest in UNLV Athletics, while managing the day-to-day storytelling, digital and social media, media relations, sports information and general communications responsibilities for select assigned areas. This position works in close coordination and cooperation with administration, coaches, staff and student-athletes to present UNLV in the most positive manner possible to external and internal constituents. It also takes a leadership role in the creation and management of the unit's student intern program, while supervising its student staff along with managing part-time event-based employees. Professional, well-written, creative, innovative and engaging content produced by the assistant director for strategic communications is a major part of the successful promotion of UNLV Athletics. Digital media such as video production and graphic arts must also be created and used effectively in this role. Work during evenings and weekends is required as well as frequent travel. This position should have basic knowledge of NCAA rules as it pertains to assigned job duties and the scope of employment. In addition this position will be responsible for obtaining proper guidance or approval for Athletic Compliance, prior to participation in select activities, as defined by NCAA bylaws or institutional policies.
