About The Position

The Salvation Army, Syracuse Area Services is seeking an Assistant Director for the Ethel T. Chamberlain Women's Residence. This is a hands-on role responsible for assisting the Program Director in managing the daily operations of the shelters. The Assistant Director will work in partnership with all staff to maintain a safe, comfortable, clean, and supportive environment for clients. This position is exempt, full-time, and comes with a benefits program, offering a salary of $63,700 per year or $2,450 bi-weekly.

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in human services with previous experience in mental health or related services preferred
  • Must have a valid NYS driver’s license that meets The Salvation Army insurance requirements
  • Must have regular access to private transportation during work and on-call hours

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, interview, and hire for open positions
  • Complete and review with employees any coaching, disciplinary, and/or evaluation documentation
  • Conduct trauma-informed supervisions with employees
  • Support and encourage team members and refer to additional resources, as appropriate
  • Provide coverage for Program Director in event of their absence
  • Assist with the training and supporting of all employees, student interns, and volunteers
  • Complete monthly 24-hour schedule with all shifts covered and monitor payroll
  • Occasionally flex schedule to provide direct, in-person supervision of staff on evening/night/weekend shifts
  • Share in Leadership on-call responsibilities
  • Monitor employees, interns, and volunteers in daily operations of the program
  • Address client concerns and train employees to address client concerns appropriately
  • Oversee all job duties of employees, checking for accuracy and comprehensiveness
  • Ensure compliance with all NYS OTDA Shelter Bureau standards
  • Process incident reports and follow up with staff and clients
  • Share in planning and facilitating monthly staff meetings with Program Director
  • Serve as a primary point of contact with local Dept of Social Services Housing Unit team
  • Audit database for proper usage by program staff and data quality
  • Oversee menu planning and food and supply inventory
  • Assist Program Director with yearly policy review and updates
  • Represent the agency and program in a professional manner in the community
