About The Position

The Assistant Director of People Operations will play a key role in overseeing all aspects of human resources management, with a focus on employee relations, compliance, and fostering a positive work environment. This individual will report directly to the Director of People Operations and will collaborate closely with department heads to ensure the smooth operation of our human resources functions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in human resources management, with at least 3 years of experience dealing with union grievances successfully in a New York City setting.
  • Thorough understanding of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, particularly as they relate to labor relations and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and establish credibility with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and conflict resolution skills, with a proven track record of effectively managing difficult situations and achieving positive outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and discretion, with a commitment to maintaining confidentiality and upholding ethical standards.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee day-to-day HR operations, including labor relations, recruitment, performance management, and employee relations.
  • Develop and implement HR policies and procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as company standards.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor and resource to employees and managers on HR-related matters, including but not limited to conflict resolution, disciplinary actions, and grievances.
  • Actively participate in labor union negotiations and collaborate with union representatives to address grievances and resolve disputes effectively.
  • Conduct investigations into employee complaints or misconduct allegations, ensuring a fair and impartial process and maintaining confidentiality throughout.
  • Provide guidance and support to department managers on labor relations matters, including interpreting collective bargaining agreements and addressing union-related issues.
  • Collaborate with the Director of People Operations and senior management to develop and implement strategic initiatives to support employee engagement, retention, and development.
