About The Position

The Burn Center at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center (formerly Saint Barnabas Medical Center) is the only state-certified burn treatment facility in New Jersey, and one of the largest in North America. With 12 intensive care beds and an 18-bed step-down unit for less critically injured patients. The Burn Center provides expert care for patients of all ages. We are seeking a compassionate, intensive care Assistant Director (Registered Nurse) to assist the Nurse Manager and care for our patients in their time of need. Ensuring that quality nursing care is delivered to all patients and his/her nursing units in accordance with the philosophy, policies, procedures and program plans of the hospital. Assists with the development of patient care standards, orientation and continuing education. Provides input into the evaluation of staff performance in accordance with organizational policies. Participates in nursing Quality Improvement. Assists with unit administration, including scheduling, payroll and maintenance of supplies and equipment. Maintains and role models clinical skills necessary to provide care for patients. Uses an understanding of the principles of growth and development to assess each patient's age-specific needs and provide age-specific treatment and care. Ensure that [unit/department/division] is in compliance with all applicable policies, laws and regulations.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or currently matriculating.
  • 2 plus years of acute care nursing experience as a Registered Nurse or 2 years of acute care nursing experience with previous management experience
  • Current and active New Jersey Registered Nurse licensure is required.
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS, APLS, or ENPC courses are required.
  • BLS certification (American Heart Association) is required upon hire.
  • Currently certified with PALS/APLS/ENPC upon hire.
  • Must be I.V. certified from an approved facility.
  • Additional certifications may be required as per the Administrative Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification Policy.
  • Completion of all orientation requirements of Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center.
  • Successful completion of all Orientation Programs.
  • The American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
  • Active New Jersey Registered Nurse License

Responsibilities

  • The Registered Nurse provides nursing care in the health care system within the scope of practice defined by the Nurse Practice Act and regulatory standards and assures awareness of ethical standards of practice as defined by the ANA code of ethics.
  • The Registered Nurse assures safety in practice and is inclusive of the principles of evidence-based practice by maintaining a realization of their own individual level of knowledge and experience and assumes responsibility for advancing knowledge of self and others in the patient care team by communicating with and utilizing resources and programs available.
  • The Registered Nurse is responsible for reporting identified safety issues such as hazardous environments (i.e. damaged floors/walls/ceiling tiles/unsecured areas) and medical errors.
  • The Registered Nurse is responsible for knowledge of the patient population served.
  • The Registered Nurse is responsible for supervising and directing the delegation of tasks to appropriate team members and collaborates with other patient care providers.
  • The Registered Nurse is responsible for consistently setting and evaluating priorities through appropriate interventions with measurable outcomes toward improvement.
  • The Registered Nurse participates in patient teaching and discharge planning. Participates in unit Performance Improvement evaluation activities.
  • The Registered Nurse is an individual practitioner and an interdisciplinary team manager, who utilizes the nursing process to integrate all aspects of the provision of care and individualizes the plan of care to address a specific patient's needs.
