About The Position

The Assistant Director of the Office of Institutional Equity at Cleveland State University (CSU) is responsible for managing complaints of unlawful discrimination and harassment from students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This role serves as the primary deputy Title IX coordinator and investigator, develops and monitors CSU's Affirmative Action Plan, and leads diversity efforts. The position also involves planning and delivering education and training programs related to equal opportunity and anti-discrimination, participating in strategic planning for the Office for Institutional Equity, and ensuring the OIE website and publications are current. In the absence of the Director, the Assistant Director will assume their responsibilities and perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferably in human resources, organizational development, social sciences, criminal justice, or related field.
  • Four (4) years of OIE or relevant work experience, including a minimum of two years investigating complaints and preparing reports.
  • Experience in interpretation of federal and state equal opportunity, non-discrimination, and anti-harassment laws and regulations.
  • Experience in making administrative and procedural decisions on sensitive, confidential issues.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Experience in investigations, compliance, mediation, negotiation, and dispute resolution.
  • Experience in training and outreach program development and delivery.

Nice To Haves

  • JD or other advanced degree in a related field of study.
  • Seven (7) years of experience conducting investigations and interpreting federal and state EEO laws and regulations.
  • Professional experience in higher education within an urban public institution.

Responsibilities

  • Manage complaints of unlawful discrimination and harassment brought by students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
  • Serve as the primary deputy Title IX coordinator and Title IX investigator.
  • Develop and monitor CSU's Affirmative Action Plan and diversity efforts.
  • Plan and develop ongoing education, training, and awareness programming related to equal opportunity, Title IX, and anti-discrimination.
  • Participate in the development of Office for Institutional Equity (OIE) strategic plans, goals, and objectives.
  • Ensure the OIE website is current and manage the development and dissemination of department publications.
  • Act as the Director, OIE in their absence.
  • Perform other functionally related duties as assigned.
