About The Position

The Assistant Director of Water Management provides operational and engineering support to the Water Management Director in the operations of the Department, including the service division, water plant, and water reclamation facility. This role involves supervising all divisions and departmental staff in the absence of the Water Management Director. The position is responsible for planning, developing, implementing, and overseeing the operation of all Water Management Department services and programs, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, and managing capital projects related to water supply and wastewater management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from a four-year college or university.
  • 3 years of supervisory or leadership experience.
  • 6 to 8 years of municipal water/wastewater operations and planning experience.
  • Tennessee Professional's Engineer License.
  • Valid Driver's License.

Nice To Haves

  • Tennessee Grade 2 distribution and/or collection licenses.
  • Tennessee Grade 4 wastewater and/or water treatment licenses.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Water Management Department Director in planning, developing, implementing, and overseeing operations.
  • Draft responses to requests from regulatory agencies.
  • Prepare operating and capital budgets related to asset management.
  • Supervise, train, and direct personnel, handling employee concerns and performance appraisals.
  • Develop and administer operating policies and procedures.
  • Serve as the point-of-contact for operational concerns regarding treatment or distribution systems.
  • Operate asset performance management system and provide budgeting input.
  • Certify and process pay requests for outside contractors.
  • Forecast future Water/Wastewater/Reclamation needs.
  • Act as the technical project manager for facility capital projects.
  • Manage Water Reclamation Facility and Water Treatment Plant employees.
  • Assist with cost of service studies and evaluate staffing needs.

  • Competitive salary range of $108,856 - $118,461 annually.
  • Biweekly pay range of $4,186.77 - $4,556.20.
