About The Position

The Office of Student Affairs at the NYU School of Professional Studies (SPS) is seeking an Assistant Director of Student Success and Retention. The Assistant Director of Student Success and Retention plays a critical role in supporting undergraduate, graduate, transfer, adult, online, and international student retention at the NYU School of Professional Studies (SPS). The Assistant Director develops, implements, and assesses student success initiatives that promote academic achievement, wellness, and engagement. This position serves as a student success coach and retention specialist, supporting students experiencing academic difficulty, financial hardship, personal concerns, or other challenges that affect persistence. The Assistant Director partners closely with Academic Advising, Academic Affairs, Enrollment Management, the Student Success Case Manager, and academic departments to design proactive outreach, build interventions, and execute programs to enhance first- and second-year student experiences, support SPS’s large international and growing online student populations, and promote holistic student flourishing throughout the student lifecycle.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 3+ years Experience in student success, advising, case management, retention initiatives, or student affairs within a higher education setting.
  • Experience supporting non-traditional, adult, and/or international student populations.
  • Demonstrated experience using student success software (e.g., Starfish/NYU Connect, Stellic, CRM tools) and interpreting data to inform interventions.
  • Strong interpersonal and coaching skills with the ability to support students facing academic and personal challenges.
  • Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and translate insights into actionable student success initiatives.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including comfort with high-volume outreach.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with academic departments, advisors, administrators, and faculty.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Student Affairs, or related field.
  • Strong grasp or experience in student success research and its application to the student experience.
