POSITION : Assistant Director of Student Services (Full time - 208 days) QUALIFICATIONS: Massachusetts Certification as an Administrator of Special Education. Experience supervising and supporting special education and intervention programming. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as effective problem solving skills. Ability to engage a variety of constituents including families, DESE, and area agencies. Commitment to ensuring success for all students, and focus on inclusive practices. Leadership characteristics that focus on diversity, equity and inclusion. Proficient in special education laws and regulations. Fiscally responsible and knowledge of budget and efficient utilization of resources. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Recommends appropriate services to meet the needs of children eligible for special education. Evaluates existing special education service delivery models on an ongoing basis to ensure responsive to student needs. Provides leadership on Special Education and improving staff understanding and eligibility criteria for existing services. Coordination and oversight of the extended year program for special education. Ensure compliance with all special education regulations. Supervises procedures for placement, evaluation, assignment and re-evaluation of students with regard to the Individual Education Plan, including homeschooled and students privately placed by parents. Oversight of child find, pre-referral and referral process for special education. Participates in the evaluation and supervision of staff in the special education department. Assists in the recruitment, selection and recommendation for hiring of special education Personnel, as needed. Provides leadership district wide to include professional development offerings to foster an inclusive environment and maintain currency on best practices. Works directly with families to include SEPAC, to ensure student needs are being met and information is proactively shared. Collaborates with the principals and teaching staff to provide services for students with special education needs. Chairs initial eligibility and three year re-evaluations district-wide Reviews student IEPs, progress notes and evaluation reports for compliance Assists with scheduling with IEP team meetings and associated paperwork. Assist the Director of Student Services develop and communicate a clear understanding of the educational needs and rights of students with disabilities to staff, parents, and students when appropriate. Assist the Director of Student Services to ensure the appropriate implementation of federal and state special education programming and 504 regulations. Coordination of the preschool program, including transition meetings with early intervention teams, scheduling of evaluations, and chairing initial team meetings. Assist the Director of Student Services prioritize program improvement through observations and analysis of student success. Assists the Director of Student Services in the supervision and evaluation of staff in a manner that encourages continuous improvement. Remains current of Special education regulations and committed to Strategic Plan and improvement of student learning. Responsible for district wide MCAS Alternate Assessments. To include coordination with building principals and special educators to ensure they are completed and submitted in a timely manner. Responsible for districtwide McKinney Vento programming to include arranging for statewide documentation, organizing transportation or other services, and providing training for district administrative assistants.
