About The Position

The Assistant Director of Student Services and Registration at the Columbia School of Social Work (CSSW) is responsible for managing the daily operations of student services and overseeing registration processes. This role ensures efficient academic support services and addresses student access needs, serving as a primary resource for students, faculty, and staff. The position focuses on enhancing the student experience through streamlined processes and effective communication strategies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and/or its equivalent required.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of relevant work experience in higher education, focusing on student services and academic operations.
  • Strong familiarity with student registration systems, academic support processes, and relevant technology applications.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across diverse student and staff populations.
  • Strong organizational and operational skills, capable of synthesizing information quickly and implementing processes efficiently.
  • Customer service orientation, discretion, and professional judgement in managing sensitive student information.
  • Knowledge of current regulations relevant to work in higher education (i.e., Title II, III & IX; FERPA; HIPAA).

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and coordinate administrative processes for student registration, including course rules, prerequisites, waitlists, and related enrollment needs for both matriculated and non-matriculated students.
  • Manage degree auditing, processing withdrawal and leave of absence (LOA) requests, transfer credit approvals, and monitoring Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) for CSSW students, ensuring all standards and timelines are met.
  • Update and maintain registration-related resources, including Course Management and the directory of classes, course descriptions, and procedural guides.
  • Participate in the adoption, maintenance, and troubleshooting of technology solutions that support registration and student services, such as Stellic, degree audit tool.
  • Collaborate with the CU Registrar and other departments to address system-related issues affecting student records, enrollment processes, and data tracking, ensuring efficient and accurate information flow.
  • Develop and implement communication strategies for conveying school and university policies, deadlines, and available resources to students, faculty and staff.
  • Maintain and update key student service publications, including websites, guides, and the academic calendar, ensuring accessibility and clarity for the CSSW community.
  • Actively support the coordination of school-wide events including orientation, commencement and other student-centered programming, ensuring smooth logistics and alignment with the school's values of inclusion and community.
  • Serve as a collaborative member in planning events and engagement initiatives, supporting student life and academic transitions.
  • Act as the School's liaison to the University's Office of Disability Services, coordinating approved accommodations for students and providing faculty with guidance on implementation.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and act as a resource for students with approved accommodations, facilitating their access to services.
  • Establish operational goals, timelines, and project plans for student services and registration functions, setting metrics to evaluate success.
  • Regularly assess the student services delivery processes, identifying areas for improvement and reporting outcomes to the Director of Student Affairs.
