About The Position

The City of Vacaville invites applications for the position of Assistant Director of Public Works - Engineering Services/City Engineer The Assistant Director of Public Works - Engineering Services manages and oversees all programs, activities and operations within the Engineering Services Division of the Public Works Department. Examples of duties include, but are not limited to: Works closely with the Public Works Director to shape the Division priorities, guide strategic planning and advance major initiatives. Oversees the City's Engineering Services Division, including development engineering oversight, capital project planning, civil engineering design, construction management and inspection for streets, utilities, transportation systems and public facilities. Assists in developing and implementing department goals, objectives, policies and procedures. Manages and mentors engineering, professional, technical and administrative staff, sets work priorities, monitors work flow and reviews and evaluates work products, methods and procedures. Requirements

  • Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in civil engineering or a related field.
  • Six (6) years of increasingly responsible experience in professional civil engineering, including two years of management responsibility.
  • Possession of a Professional Civil Engineer Certificate of Registration with the State of California is required.
  • Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record are conditions of initial and continued employment.

Responsibilities

  • Works closely with the Public Works Director to shape the Division priorities, guide strategic planning and advance major initiatives.
