About The Position

Since 1938, generations of campers have come to experience the joy and beauty of Camp Silver Creek. Located deep inside Oregon's Silver Falls State Park, historic Camp Silver Creek is a magical place for children and adults alike. Towering evergreens and a stream flow through the camp’s four units. In the center of camp, a beautiful field is perfect for field games and the lake welcomes boaters, fishermen, and even the early morning polar bear swimmers. We are actively hiring great role models who are energetic, collaborative, and hard working to join the team for this summer. The Role: The Assistant Director of Operations is a member of the summer leadership team at Camp Silver Creek. The AD of Operations is directly responsible for all of the non-programmatic happenings at camp. Specific job functions include oversight of kitchen and infirmary, facility management, management of all camp spaces (facilities and outdoors), camp store oversight, and routine (non behavior/medical) parent communication.

Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Minimum of one prior summer in an overnight camp leadership role.
  • Experience in assisting in the oversight of facilities, logistics, and camp operations; including kitchens, infirmary, and general site management.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to coordinate schedules, supplies, and staff assignments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to respond effectively to safety and emergency situations, ensuring a proactive approach to risk management.
  • Basic knowledge of health and safety regulations related to food service, camp operations, and facility management preferred.
  • Experience supervising and mentoring staff, particularly in operational roles.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage inventory, supplies, and budgeting needs
  • Completion of all training and onboarding prior to program start date or training due dates. Training is provided as needed after hiring.
  • Must be CPR and First Aid certified or willing to become certified within the first 30 days of employment. (Certification classes available upon employment.)
  • Current Oregon Food Handler’s Certification, or ability to obtain certification.
  • Must be available during all of the following date: June 7 - June 13 (Program Staff Retreat) June 14 - June 20 (Mandatory All-Staff Training) June 21 - August 23 (Camp Season & Move-Out)
  • Must be physically capable of observing and listening for stressful situations at all times.
  • Must be physically capable of lifting 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to quickly reach a person and/or situation to prevent harm.
  • Capable of effective and appropriate mental, emotional and social responses in a constantly changing, youth centered environment.
  • All candidates must have reliable transportation.
  • Job offers are contingent upon completion of a rigorous criminal history background check.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises Kitchen Director and Infirmary Director
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for parents, responding to daily emails and phone calls related to camp logistics. Manages incoming and outgoing camp mail to ensure timely communication.
  • Oversees weekly staff assignments along with the Unit and Kitchen directors (with AD of Programming)
  • Assists in oversight of kitchen operations including health code adherence, ordering, and budget (with CSD)
  • Assists in oversight of infirmary operations, including adherence with safety protocols, facility needs and repairs, and supply needs (with Infirmary Director)
  • Assists in oversight of all facility and site needs in communication with the state park, including landscaping and repair needs, recycling and garbage management, firewood supply, and general camp cleanliness (with Outpost Director)
  • Manages the Camp Store, including stocking/inventory, general cleanliness, reorder requests (with CSD); as well as training and assigning staff (with AD of Programming)
  • Assist in conducting staff and program observations, providing feedback to ensure high-quality programming and staff performance.
  • Support the reset and preparation of camp between sessions, ensuring all areas are cleaned, organized, and ready before staff departure on Saturdays.
  • Assist with curfew and bed checks to maintain a safe and structured overnight camp environment.
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to staff, fostering professional growth, teamwork, and adherence to camp values.
  • Participates in required mid-season leadership planning and training sessions to support program quality, staff alignment, and end-of-season readiness.
