Under the supervision of the Director of Nursing is responsible for the overall supervision of nursing care, including the staffing and training of the Nursing Department. Job Description Provides nursing care according to physician’s orders and in conformance with recognized nursing practice, establish standards, and administrative policies. The ADON ensures preventative, therapeutic and rehabilitative services to residents and assists tin the coordination of nursing care with care rendered by other disciplines. The ADON has the skill to assess resident and notify attending physician and responsible party in the event of a change in the resident’s condition. Accurately administers prescribed medications, supervises the continuity of nursing care, responds to change in medical condition, medications, or other circumstances requiring special care needs and performs first aid as required. Provides daily supervision and leadership to assigned staff and other designed personnel in meeting the resident’s needs. Demonstrates good decision-making skills. Provides pre-written evaluation and oral counseling of assigned staff for review. Assess and monitors complex resident health status and determines the appropriate nursing intervention. Develops and monitors the ongoing plan of care with resident and initiates corrective action as necessary. Through familiarity and application of facility policies and procedures, assures that nursing care is practice in full accordance with regulatory requirements, facility quality standards, and resident rights. The ADON Ensures essential communication tools are available (two-way radios and nursing phone). Monitors resident environment to ensure all safety and sanity regulation and quality standards are met or exceeded and may assist with development and presentation of in-service programs. Accountabilities Responsibilities Provide daily supervision to assigned staff to residents in Skilled Nursing, Assisted Living, and Memory Care, as assigned. Administers direct nursing care when more than routine care is indicated. Notifies physician and family of changes in resident’s condition. Encourages rehabilitative techniques in order to restore residents’ independence. Assures proper functioning of medical equipment and adequate medical supplies. Makes routine rounds to assure proper care and a safe, clean resident environment. Assures accuracy and completeness of medical records. Supervises nursing personnel and conducts evaluations of nursing staff. Recruitment of nursing staff for open positions, including interviewing when DON is not available. Organizes and executes orientation of nursing personnel PRN if SDC not available. Participates in family/resident counseling PRN. Responds to emergency calls as necessary. Functions in the capacity of DON in his/her absence. Assures effective communication with other shifts and departments as it relates to resident care. Assists DON in developing and implementing policies and procedures. Assists in infection control, safety and pharmacy rounds and audits. Some “on call” is required. Implements and executes in-service training and education sessions as needed. Performs specific work duties and responsibilities assigned by supervisor. Accompanies physicians when making rounds PRN. Heads up and runs the Restorative Program. Performs all other duties as assigned by DON or Administrator.
