About The Position

The ADON is the third in command of the nursing department. Works closely with the Director of Nurses and Chief Nursing Officer to improve the quality of patient care and services provided by the team. Helps oversee the nursing team to ensure quality customer service and compliance with all federal, state, and local rules and regulations, as well as the policies and procedures set by BMH.

Requirements

  • Current RN License in the State of Utah
  • BSN required
  • 2+ years of recent or current (within the last 1-2 years) experience in Med/Surg, ER, and L&D required.
  • Ability to pass clinical competencies
  • Extensive knowledge regarding medical diseases, conditions, and treatment methodologies
  • Ability to learn and teach other people about medical conditions and diseases
  • Current BLS, ACLS, TNCC, PALS, ALSO, NRP and fetal monitoring courses required.
  • Fluently read, write and speak the English language
  • Ability to reason and creatively problem solve
  • Ability to interact with co-workers, managers, administration, and medical staff in a professional and courteous manner

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in leadership, staff education, or quality improvement preferred
  • Familiarity with newborn hearing screening equipment and EHDI requirements preferred (training provided)
  • Strong communication, organization, and teaching skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the DON with daily oversight of nursing services across Med/Surg, Emergency Department, and Labor and Delivery.
  • Serve as acting DON when needed to support continuity of leadership.
  • Participate in staffing coordination, scheduling, and resource allocation.
  • Provide hands-on nursing support when needed, including during high census, emergencies, or low staffing.
  • Must be willing to work a scheduled 1-3 shifts per week (day, night, or weekends) in Labor and Delivery, Emergency room, or Med/Surg. This is a working manager position (at the discretion of the DON).
  • Serve as a clinical resource to nursing staff, helping develop skills and confidence in all service areas.
  • Assist with orientation, precepting, and clinical assessment of nursing staff.
  • Plan, develop, and deliver staff education in conjunction with the nursing educator, including annual competencies, skills validation, emergency preparedness training, and new equipment rollouts.
  • Assist the Nursing Educator in maintaining educational records, tracking completion of required training modules, and ensuring staff meet regulatory and facility competency requirements.
  • Assist in coordinating mock codes and drills.
  • Assist with infection control, procedure audits, rounding, and charting audits to help maintain Joint Commission Accreditation.
  • Oversee and maintain the hospital’s Newborn Hearing Screening program
  • Participate in hiring new staff
  • Assist in addressing complaints and suggest a resolution to problems
  • Comply with the Blue Mountain Hospital Policies and Procedures regarding Confidentiality, with the Privacy Act, and with the Health Insurance Portability Act
  • Follow all personnel policies and procedures of Blue Mountain Hospital and support the administrative team in providing quality healthcare in a financially viable process
  • Maintain patient and business confidentiality at all times
  • Any other tasks, projects, or duties that are requested by the Employee’s supervisor or other Blue Mountain Hospital management or administration that are at all reasonably related to Blue Mountain Hospital and/or the Employee’s employment with Blue Mountain Hospital.
