About The Position

The Assistant Director of Maintenance supports the overall leadership, planning, and execution of airport maintenance operations. This role ensures that airfield, facilities, equipment, and infrastructure are maintained to meet all regulatory, safety, and operational standards. The Assistant Director acts as a key advisor to the Director of Maintenance and serves as second‑in‑command, providing strategic oversight, staff leadership, and operational continuity. Requirements

  • Understanding of airport infrastructure systems (pavement, lighting, HVAC, electrical, mechanical, fleet, etc.).
  • Familiarity with FAA Part 139, airport safety management systems (SMS), and maintenance best practices.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced, safety‑critical environment.
  • Must possess a valid Florida driver’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days from date of hire.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secure Identification Display Area (SIDA) Badge
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain CBP Seals
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Airfield Qualifications
  • Must be able to operate heavy equipment (forklift, backhoe, lull, skid steer, etc.)
  • Must have a High School Diploma or Equivalent

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in airport/airfield maintenance is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily maintenance operations across the airfield, landside, terminal, and support facilities to include heavy interaction with the work order system.
  • Coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance programs to ensure reliability and regulatory compliance.
  • Monitor work quality, productivity, and adherence to established standards and procedures.
  • Assist in developing and implementing maintenance policies, SOPs, and emergency response plans.
  • Ensure maintenance activities comply with FAA Part 139, TSA, OSHA, NFPA, and other applicable regulations.
  • Support inspections, audits, and documentation required for certification and regulatory reporting.
  • Promote a strong safety culture through training, hazard identification, and risk mitigation.
  • Supervise maintenance supervisors, technicians, and contracted service providers.
  • Participate in hiring, training, scheduling, performance evaluations, and workforce development.
  • Provide leadership that fosters teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Respond to operational issues, service requests, and emergencies, ensuring timely resolution.
  • Serve as a liaison between maintenance and airport operations, airlines, tenants, and regulatory agencies.
  • Ordering of tools, materials, and supplies to support maintenance activities.
  • Support development and management of the maintenance department budget.
  • Monitor expenditures, resource allocation, and inventory control.
  • Recommend procurement of tools, materials, vehicles, and equipment.
  • Represent the department in meetings, planning sessions, and cross‑functional initiatives.
  • Work is performed in both office and airfield environments.
  • May require responding to emergencies, inclement weather, or irregular hours.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
