About The Position

The Assistant IT Director will assist the IT Director in overseeing the company's technology operations and network infrastructure, particularly in managing our fiber-optic Internet Service Provider (ISP) services. This role requires a blend of technical expertise in programming and SQL, coupled with a solid understanding of business operations. The Assistant IT Director will support both the strategic and day-to-day operations of the IT department, ensuring network security, operational efficiency, and the delivery of exceptional internet services to our customers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in IT management, preferably within a telecommunications or ISP environment.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or C++.
  • Strong understanding of SQL and experience with database management systems.
  • Familiarity with fiber-optic network infrastructure, including OLTs, ONTs, and GPON.
  • Experience in managing network operations, including routing, switching, and network monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, PRTG).
  • Networking protocols (TCP/IP, BGP, MPLS) and IT systems (Linux/Unix, Windows Servers).
  • Experience with network security practices, including firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS systems.
  • Project management experience with a proven track record of completing projects on time and within budget.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills to work cross-functionally with teams and external stakeholders.
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.

Nice To Haves

  • CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent networking certifications (preferred).
  • ITIL, PMP, or other relevant certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing and maintaining the company's fiber-optic network, ensuring uptime, scalability, and performance.
  • Collaborate with the Network Operations Center (NOC) team to monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize network performance, ensuring service level agreements (SLAs) are met.
  • Provide direct support to the IT Director in implementing IT strategies, policies, and procedures.
  • Oversee administration of network hardware, servers, and software related to the fiber network and internal company operations.
  • Manage or co-manage projects aimed at improving network infrastructure, implementing new technology, or expanding service offerings.
  • Help implement and enforce cybersecurity measures to protect the network and customer data.
  • Work with external vendors and contractors to maintain equipment and services related to network operations.
  • Mentor and lead a team of IT staff, ensuring ongoing training and professional development.
  • Assist in planning and managing the IT department's budget, ensuring resources are allocated efficiently.
  • Collaborate with customer service teams to address escalated technical issues and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Utilize SQL expertise to design, implement, and manage databases that support business operations and decision-making.
  • Analyze processes, identify areas for improvement, and implement solutions that align with organizational goals.
