About The Position

The Assistant Director of Fraternity & Sorority Life provides guidance and oversight for student organizations in Fraternity & Sorority Life. Works with the Fraternity & Sorority Life community to promote leadership development, maintain compliance, mitigate risk, oversee budgets, and ensure program effectiveness.

Requirements

• This position requires either eight years of directly related full-time experience or, as an alternative, a Master’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of full-time experience directly related to the job functions.
• Professional full-time experience in student involvement, student organization development, or closely related field.
• Experience operating a personal computer and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Publisher, and Outlook).
• Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects within deadlines.
• Ability to interact in a professional manner with staff, faculty, students and the community in a service-oriented environment.
• Ability to work successfully as both a member of a team and independently with minimal supervision.
• Ability to take initiative to plan, organize, coordinate, and perform work in various situations when numerous and competing demands are involved.
• Ability to think critically and creatively, have a high standard of integrity, and be motivated to incorporate best practices into the organizational structure.

Responsibilities

• Provides guidance and development for a comprehensive Fraternity & Sorority Life community, including organizational and leadership development, workshops, risk management, recruitment, budget oversight, and assessment of effectiveness.
• Oversees the accounting of assigned council budgets.
• Provides advice and guidance to council leaders to ensure compliance.
• Advises and supports Governing Councils as assigned.
• Attends council meetings and meets regularly with council leadership.
• Provides oversight, sets guidelines on best practices, and ensures compliance with organization and National standards.
• Guides organizations to meet the objectives and measures of the Standards of Fraternal Excellence (SFE).
• Assists with tracking and evaluating organization performance and works with organizations to develop improvement plans to achieve and/or maintain good standing.
• Provides necessary reports to SFE.
• Serves as the liaison to internal and external stakeholders for reports of behavior infractions.
• Works with impacted members and groups within the Fraternity & Sorority Life community to perform outreach, create action plans, and work to meet expectations of National Offices.
• Works with Student Conduct on organization violations of the Student Code of Conduct.
• Coordinates outreach and follow-up regarding organization sanction completion.
• Monitors academic performance and provides outreach to students in need of resources and support.
• Partners with the Retention and Transition Programs staff to build parent and family engagement and create programming.
• Assists with the recruitment, hiring, training, and supervision of part time, student, and full-time staff.
• Provides leadership and oversight for the development of new programs and initiatives for fraternity and sorority members.
• Evaluates and recommends proactive and efficient policies and procedures to promote best practices.
• Oversees and coordinates retention programs (i.e., Second Year Experience).
• Assists with planning, implementation, and facilitation of leadership retreats.
• Assists with new initiatives on campus designed to enhance student support and achieve program performance goals.
• Accompanies student leaders to state, regional, and national conferences.
• Serves on department and university committees.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
