About The Position

The University of Virginia's School of Continuing and Professional Studies (SCPS) is seeking a dynamic and service-oriented Assistant Director of Financial Aid to support adult learners through effective scholarship management and student-centered financial aid services. Reporting to the Director of Financial Aid, this role plays a key part in enhancing access to education by managing scholarship programs, improving communication processes, and contributing to institutional financial aid initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • At least four years of progressively responsible experience in higher education financial aid.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience serving adult learners or non-traditional student populations.

Responsibilities

  • Administer SCPS scholarship programs in collaboration with Program Directors, University Student Financial Services, and external partners.
  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of scholarship awards in compliance with University and SCPS policies.
  • Develop and implement new scholarship programs to meet evolving student needs.
  • Maintain accurate records and reporting for all scholarship activities.
  • Manage all communications related to scholarship opportunities and award notifications for applicants and recipients.
  • Evaluate and improve current award notification systems and processes for greater efficiency.
  • Coordinate the collection and distribution of scholarship acknowledgements to sponsors, donors, and advancement representatives.
  • Support admissions and marketing teams with financial aid-related messaging as needed.
  • Provide timely and professional responses to inquiries from prospective and current students regarding scholarships and financial aid.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable resource for students navigating the financial aid process.
  • Represent SCPS and the University at financial aid conferences, forums, and outreach events.
  • Collaborate with other departments to deliver presentations and workshops for prospective students.
  • Stay current with SCPS and University financial aid regulations, policies, and initiatives.
  • Participate in committees and working groups to share insights and develop best practices.
  • Contribute to institutional efforts aimed at improving financial aid processes and student experience.
  • Continuously assess and refine internal procedures to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned to support the mission and goals of SCPS.
