About The Position

The Assistant Director of Finance, Academic Operations is a key leadership role with significant supervisory responsibilities. You'll be in charge of the finance staff for the College of Dentistry, which includes hiring, supervising, and evaluating employees. You will also be responsible for ensuring consistency in financial practices across all departments within the college by establishing standardized procedures. A crucial part of this role is fostering a positive work environment and building collaborative relationships with both your staff and other university departments. This includes providing training and professional development opportunities to your team. As the Assistant Director, you'll have a direct hand in the day-to-day financial and business operations of the college. This involves: Financial Approvals: Reviewing and approving financial documents, including purchases, travel expenses, and reconciliations. Budget Management: Directing the annual budget development process, managing commitments, and tracking allocations. Strategic Advising: Serving as a key advisor to the college's leadership, helping to align financial strategies with institutional goals. This includes advising on complex financial, business, and personnel issues. Reporting and Analysis: Preparing and submitting annual financial reports and documentation for legislative and accreditation purposes. You will also produce financial analyses and forecasts to help with decision-making. Problem-Solving: Monitoring financial conditions and recommending corrective actions when necessary to maintain stability. In essence, you are responsible for more than just managing the numbers—you are a strategic partner who ensures the college's financial health and operational efficiency while leading and developing the finance team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Seven years of related financial management experience, including supervisory responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to ensure understanding.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and supervisory skills.
  • Ability to build collaborative working relationships and foster a positive environment.
  • Strong knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and financial reporting applications.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and work cooperatively with others.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in data analysis and building reports.
  • Familiarity with FAMIS, Workday, AggieBuy, Business Objects or MicroStrategy, Compass/Banner, and other TAMU System applications.
  • Demonstrated success implementing process improvements.
  • Advanced degree in Business, Finance, or related field.
  • Experience in higher education finance leadership.
  • Experience managing academic budgets, sponsored research funds, or state-funded operations.
