About The Position

The Assistant Director of Day Habilitation Services works alongside the Director of Day Habilitation Services to oversee all operations of the Day Habilitation program at Charles River Center. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of Day Habilitation Services and the ability to provide support and collaborate across multiple programs as needed. The primary focus of this role is to oversee the Day Habilitation Program, ensuring: Direct supervision, training, and support for assigned staff Effective implementation of Day Habilitation Service Plans (DHSPs) Program goals are achieved efficiently, in accordance with agency policies, state, and federal regulations Collaboration with referral agencies, community members, and program marketing efforts

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a health or human services-related field (required).
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in the professional healthcare field, with at least two years in a supervisory role.
  • Valid Massachusetts driver’s license.
  • Successful completion of all state and agency-mandated training.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Must pass a Criminal History Background Check (CORI) and additional screenings.
  • Ability to perform essential job duties with reasonable accommodations.
  • Fluency in English required.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, procedural manuals, and reports.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals served, staff, families, and external partners.
  • Capable of presenting information in both individual and group settings.
  • Significant endurance required to meet the physical demands of the role.
  • Frequent standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, and crouching required.
  • Regular use of hands and arms for handling objects and assisting individuals.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs from floor to waist and 10-15 lbs from waist to overhead.
  • Occasional need to maneuver up to 100 lbs (assistance provided when lifting individuals).
  • Ability to follow detailed written or oral instructions.
  • Problem-solving skills to address individual needs and program operations effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain program standards in compliance with MassHealth, DDS regulations, and CARF standards.
  • Ensure staff adherence to all regulations, laws, and agency policies.
  • Act as a member of the Interdisciplinary Team, ensuring appropriate team composition.
  • Manage referral, intake, and orientation processes for new members.
  • Assign new members to Developmental Specialist’s caseloads and participate in case conferences.
  • Report outcomes and negotiations to the Director of Day Habilitation Services, as necessary.
  • Ensure proper implementation of members' DHSP goals and objectives.
  • Maintain accurate data collection and reporting for goal progress.
  • Train staff on DHSP goals, objectives, and data collection techniques.
  • Encourage teamwork and clear communication among program staff.
  • Counsel members, provide referrals, and follow up to ensure they receive necessary services.
  • Maintain knowledge of community resources to support individuals effectively.
  • Assist staff in developing self-care, communication, and independent living skills for members.
  • Maintain knowledge of members' learning styles, strengths, and needs.
  • Provide hands-on support for personal care, including lifting, transfers, and hygiene assistance.
  • Oversee daily operations of the Day Habilitation program.
  • Promote a team-oriented approach, working cooperatively with leadership and program staff.
  • Communicate expectations clearly, providing regular feedback and guidance.
  • Conduct supervision sessions with staff and participate in agency-wide meetings.
  • Assist in recruitment and hiring, making recommendations for new hires.
  • Coordinate staff training and orientation, ensuring all required certifications are maintained.
  • Work with nursing personnel, occupational, speech, physical, and behavioral therapists to develop individualized goals.
  • Ensure that therapeutic recommendations are effectively implemented by staff.
  • Train staff in creative, diverse, and age-appropriate teaching techniques.
  • Implement behavior management and emergency intervention strategies.
  • Respond to crisis situations effectively, following established behavior plans.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of incident reports.
  • Uphold Human Rights policies and Positive Behavioral Supports (PBS).
  • Ensure adherence to all safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintain knowledge of fire safety, evacuation protocols, and emergency procedures.
  • Keep program environments clean, organized, and hazard-free.
  • Use safe lifting and transferring techniques at all times.
  • Foster strong relationships with staff, members, families, guardians, and referral agencies.
  • Promote positive public relations and professional representation of the program.
  • Monitor staff professionalism, including interactions, presentations, and communication.
  • Serve as a role model for staff, upholding agency policies and standards.
  • Perform additional duties or substitute for staff as necessary.
