About The Position

The Assistant Director of Community Standards is primarily responsible for overseeing the management of student conduct cases at Northwestern University. This role involves serving as a conduct administrator for allegations of moderate to serious student misconduct, which includes investigating cases that may lead to separation from the university, such as suspension or expulsion. The Assistant Director will manage COVID-19 violations and compliance, ensuring that all processes are followed in accordance with university policies. This position may require on-call hours, overnight shifts, and weekend work as needed, reflecting the dynamic nature of student conduct management. In terms of case management, the Assistant Director will coordinate the resolution of conduct cases, which includes both non-separation level cases and those that could result in significant disciplinary action. Responsibilities include investigating allegations, determining responsibility, and assigning appropriate sanctions. The Assistant Director will also serve as a backup for sanctioning panels, ensuring that all procedural requirements are met and that outcome letters are drafted accurately. Collaboration with the Office of Civil Rights & Title IX Compliance is essential, particularly for cases that intersect with both the Student Code of Conduct and OCR policies. The role also involves developing and facilitating alternative resolution processes, fostering relationships with various university offices such as Diversity and Inclusion and the Ombudsperson. Administrative responsibilities include managing the Maxient database for student conduct records, leading recruitment and training for process advisors, and coordinating outreach and education initiatives for the office. The Assistant Director will represent the Office of Community Standards on various committees and initiatives, ensuring a university-wide understanding of conduct issues and compliance with the Student Code of Conduct. Overall, this position is integral to maintaining a safe and respectful campus environment, promoting student learning, social justice, and community values while addressing the challenges faced by students both on and off-campus.
