The Assistant Director of Career Services at Columbia University plays a pivotal role in supporting the professional development of students in the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation (GSAPP) Architecture programs. Reporting to the Associate Dean of Development and Alumni Relations, this position is dedicated to fostering connections between the industry and the GSAPP, enhancing the visibility of the school, and facilitating graduate recruitment opportunities. The Assistant Director will collaborate closely with the Associate Director of Career Services to implement outreach strategies and marketing initiatives that promote the school to potential employers both domestically and internationally. In this role, the Assistant Director will be responsible for maintaining strong relationships with a diverse range of employers, from local firms to international organizations, to create opportunities for events, internships, and training programs. The position requires proactive engagement with alumni and industry professionals to build a robust network that supports the career aspirations of GSAPP students. The Assistant Director will also be involved in the planning and execution of career fairs, employer recruitment events, and career development programs, ensuring that students have access to the resources and support they need to succeed in their job searches. Additionally, the Assistant Director will provide personalized career coaching to students, helping them to develop job search strategies, prepare resumes, and practice interview skills. The role includes the collection and maintenance of placement data, which will be used to inform program improvements and report on employment trends. The Assistant Director will also work collaboratively with faculty and academic program administrators to organize workshops and information sessions related to professional licensing requirements. This position is integral to the success of GSAPP students as they transition from academic programs to professional careers.
